The house itself plays a very important part, especially in how the narrator reacts to it. She is fully aware that she does not belong there, everything about it is described in negative terms delineating everything that it isn't versus what it is. It's by knowing where she doesn't fit that she knows to where she might fit.[58] It is similar to the concept of light and dark. We know that darkness is the absence of light, in this case her identity exists outside of this house on mango street.

Mexican American author Sandra Cisneros's novella The House on Mango Street is the story of a Latina girl named Esperanza Cordero who grows up on the mean streets of an inner-city neighborhood. Originally published in 1984, the novel enjoyed immediate critical acclaim, winning the Before Columbus Foundation's American Book Award in 1985. Now in its 25th year of publication, The House on Mango Street has sold over 2 million copies and is required reading in many middle schools, high schools, and universities across the country. So, what's the big deal here? Like we said, The House on Mango Street is being taught both to thirteen-year-olds and college students. The writing is simplistic enough for younger readers to understand, while at the same time sophisticated enough to keep the interest of writers and literary scholars.

The Gamble House is designated as California Historical Landmark #871 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Aunt Lupe – Aunt Lupe is primarily present in the vignette "Born Bad," in which Esperanza scolds herself for mimicking her dying aunt. However, she suffered crippling illness that left her bedridden. The House on Mango Street traces Esperanza Cordero's coming-of-age through a series of vignettes about her family, neighborhood, and secret dreams.

She is utterly desperate to find a man to marry her, to escape the beatings and maltreatment she gets from her father at home. This ‘vicious cycle’ is seen when Esperanza goes and tells Sally's mother that her daughter is in a garden with three boys and the mother completely disregards this, her mother doesn't seem surprised or worried. Her mother cares for her cuts and bruises allowing for the violence to perpetuate,[21] both mother and daughter give excuses to the father. The bare fact that Sally marries at such a young age to a man that ends up treating her just like her father, shows how this cycle is so ingrained in the way of life of many women, and passed from generation to generation. The author pities this character, not blaming her for what happened to her, Sally was very young and immature to fully understand her surroundings, to find a way out. This LA neighborhood is famous for offering views of the Verdugo Mountains and beautiful parks like Brand Park and, of course, Griffith Park on its border.

Admission is $10 and reservations are required to visit the grounds. Groups with 10 or more visitors must make an appointment and sign a group release form prior to visiting. Guided, one-hour personal tours of the interior are available for $275 (1-2 adults) and $450 (3-4 adults).

Although the novel does not follow a traditional chronological pattern, a story emerges, nevertheless, of Esperanza's self-empowerment and will to overcome obstacles of poverty, gender, and race. The novel begins when the Cordero family move into a new house, the first they have ever owned, on Mango Street in the Latino section of Chicago. It is not at all the dream-house her parents had always talked about, nor is it the house high on a hill that Esperanza vows to one day own herself. As she grows older and witnesses the lives of the women around her,Esperanza becomes increasingly eager to escape from Mango Street. She knowsthat she will not achieve this through marriage; she is not beautiful, and herearly sexual experiences are painful and distressing.

The walls of the Avila house are made of adobe brick, a material consisting of clay, water and other organic materials like straw. Los Angeles is known around the world for its masterpieces of residential architecture. Famous fans of these landmark designs include Ice Cube and Moby. Here’s what you can expect to earn working with a We Buy Houses company and a top Florida real estate agent. Wondering how a We Buy Houses for Cash company stacks up against working with a real estate agent? In this example, a Florida cash-for-homes company will probably offer you around $165,000 for your property. However, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for scams, or anything that just doesn’t seem right. Verify all professional licenses, check customer reviews, get a referral if possible, and vet the company on the Better Business Bureau website. In Florida, it typically takes around 77 days to sell a home on the market using an agent.

The offers that appear on this site are from companies that compensate us. But this compensation does not influence the information we publish, or the reviews that you see on this site. We do not include the universe of companies or financial offers that may be available to you.

We’ve compiled some of the best home-buying companies in Florida that will enable you to quickly sell your home for cash. The final rule will restore and extend the right to overtime pay to many salaried workers, including workers who historically were entitled to overtime pay under the FLSA because of their lower pay or the type of work they performed. Starting July 1, most salaried workers who earn less than $844 per week will become eligible for overtime pay under the final rule.

But unlike more traditional We Buy Houses for Cash companies, iBuyers tend to look for homes in better condition and offer much closer to market value, typically in the 90% range. Formed in 2011, FL Cash Home Buyers, LLC has completed over 800 real estate transactions. The company says its closing process typically takes two to four weeks, but that it can be flexible depending on the seller’s level of urgency and preferred timeline. The primary bill (SB 7028) signed by DeSantis provides $200 million for the grant program, with new parameters for how the funding is to be distributed. The other bill (HB 1029) allows condominium associations to be eligible for inspections and grants. The program offers inspections and grants up to $10,000 to help residents upgrade homes and qualify for property-insurance discounts for residences valued up to $700,000.

Bob Graham remembered: Mourners pay their respects in Tallahassee

Founded in 2017, Freedom Cash Home Buyers prides itself on having no hidden fees or closing deductions. The law defines “low-income” as households making less than 80% of the median household income. The state couldn’t immediately say how it plans to calculate those income levels, but federal data shows it would be about $70,800 across the state. If passed, SB 7028 would prohibit the state from accepting new applications or creating a waitlist once the funds dry up again. However, prices are hyper-localized, so research the specific cities you are considering. In Tallahassee, for example, median home prices are lower — $299,000 — and rising at a slower pace than in places like Naples, where the median sales price is more than $875,000.

While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza. The opposition to the Israel aid represented a minority of Democrats, but reflected the deep resistance to unconditional aid and the divisions in the party on Gaza.

Legislators have assigned $27.6 million for grants, which should go fast. Like the home program, the condo program also matches $2 in state money for every $1 owners spend. But it has more restrictions on how much money can go to specific upgrades. The total grant award is up to $175,000 per association.More details can be found in the legislation, HB 1029. The condo grants can apply to upgrading exterior doors, garage doors, windows and skylights and strengthening roofs. For the first time, lawmakers and DeSantis are extending the program to condo owners, who have struggled to afford new inspection and maintenance costs required after the 2021 Surfside collapse.

But getting a cut of future revenue would encourage them to invest in their cars and facilities. Teams, most of which lose money each year under the current model, said that this hurt their ability to prepare for the future, scared investors away and made operations tenuous at a time when NASCAR seemed flush. When Michael Jordan and his right-hand man, Curtis Polk, bought a NASCAR team in 2020 with the driver Denny Hamlin, they were prepared to endure short-term losses. The Next Generation cars that were introduced in 2022 would cost top teams about $18 million a year to run before paying a driver, and their team, 23XI, had two. Paying for a new building to house the cars would cost tens of millions of dollars more. Chhoeun watched as one officer was hit after another just nearby. For more than two years, the racing teams and NASCAR have essentially been at a standstill about the financial future of the sport. In sporadic talks between the sides, NASCAR has offered a modestly larger share of its new broadcast contract to the teams. reviews of Everlasting Kiss, a Charlotte Tilbury Superstar Lips

charlotte tilbury everlasting kiss

Whether the product looked smoothing depended on the shade as some were more flattering to wear than others. The formula had a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. Charlotte Tilbury Coral Kiss Kissing Lipstick (£23.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened, medium coral-pink with a satin finish.

Makeup & Beauty Product Reviews

I added a swatch of Pillow Talk at the end for reference. I reviewed the Superstar Lips formula last year here. I had mixed feelings because of the price and size of the product. I still do for this reason, but the formula is really nice, especially if you like a glossy lip. Three new shades caught my eye in Glow Kiss, Princess Kiss and Everlasting Kiss (the first two of these are exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury’s website). After hauling all three I decided to give the shimmery ones a try in Pillow Talk Diamonds and Lucky Diamonds as well.

SUPERSTAR LIPS EVERLASTING KISS

The shades tended to have mostly opaque to opaque color coverage rather than "medium coverage." Charlotte Tilbury Crystal Happikiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light-medium pink with moderate, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy finish. It had sheer coverage–and this one shade was described as sheer, hurrah! –with a moderately dense, thicker consistency that had good adhesion to my lips. Despite looking incredibly wet-looking on, it didn’t slide around and hugged my lips comfortably.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Lipsticks

It's very wet and never drys so its messy and bleeds on me. As an example, one rating criteria for lipsticks is luster. Matte might be a desired quality for you, while glossy might be desired for someone else. Without the need for long-form written text, everyone saves time. Don’t let us discourage you from waxing poetic if you are so inclined, some people are gifted writers and should share if they want to.

I think every color in the Gorgeous Glowing Beauty palette is wearable and great for the more conservative beauty lover or for those who feel like they don’t know how to wear makeup. It’s truly easy to wear with easy to follow steps for a full face look and I do think it’s beautiful! At $75 it is fairly spendy, I bought mine during the Sephora Holiday bonus event for some savings. When I previewed shopping the palette in store a lot of you asked how it compares to The Dolce Vita quad (now renamed The Bella Sofia), swatches below. There are definitely similarities in two of the shades, I find the individual quad has more color payoff on the eyes.

You can find the Charlotte Tilbury Gorgeous Glowing Beauty Palette out now. I do believe it’s limited-edition like all of her other palettes. I bought mine at Sephora and it’s sold out there online, but still available at other places like Nordstrom, Charlotte Tilbury, Bloomingdales and Beautylish to name a few. HappiPetal was the one I was actually referring to in the previous post.

CHARLOTTE'S MAGIC MINI SKIN SETLIMITED EDITION KIT

Velvet Underground Kissing Lipstick (£23.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bold, brightened fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It was incredibly pigmented, and it applied and wore beautifully for a solid six and a half hours, plus it left behind a stain that lingered for a couple more hours. It was neither drying nor hydrating while worn; it seemed slightly moisturizing initially but at the four-hour mark, it just seemed neither drying nor hydrating. The Charlotte Tilbury Gorgeous, Glowing Beauty Instant Look in a Palette is such a pretty easy to wear palette I think it should be permanent!

I’ve tried every one of her Instant Look palettes, there have been hits and misses in the past and I think this is the best one she’s launched to date! Add products to your makeup collection wherever you see these icons. Once there, you can sort by category, have/want/have, or even build your own custom kits for further organizing. Need help finding your perfect foundation shade?

It had rich, opaque color coverage, and the color applied evenly and smoothly. It wore well for four and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating when worn. At blushgarden, we think differently about reading and writing beauty product reviews. We believe product reviews should provide you with detailed information, let the writer quickly and easily share their thoughts, and be a fun experience for all. To achieve this, we provide a ratings scale for distinct criteria, alongside traditional written comments.

We just want to encourage and provide great reviews without that particular barrier to entry. She has normal-to-dry skin with occasional dryness on cheeks and nose. She has a light plus skintone with subtle, warmer yellow undertones (view her foundation matches here). An added benefit to the scales is quickly seeing how a product might perform. You can identify that a product is rated highly for luster without reading a lot of text. Easily compare and evaluate similar products based on identical criteria.

It lasted well for four hours and felt hydrating while worn. Perfect, full, kissable lips really do grow on trees… Charlotte’s debut range of lipsticks are truly remarkable and boast a fail-safe recipe for perfect lips. The unique formula features seed extracts from ‘The Lipstick Tree,’ a plant extract that is exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury. ‘The Lipstick Tree’ is a rare, exotic tree with nurturing and protective properties were originally discovered by Native American women who used the seeds to paint and protect their lips. With an anti-oxidant that naturally protects lips from UV damage and external pollution, lips are left cashmere soft and irresistible.

I just got Crystal HappiKiss, I thought the other colours looked too pigmented for a balm type product. The Tarte Maricuja Juicy Lip is an exact dupe for this very shiny thick balm. I can’t remember what they cost, but the are deffo cheaper. The have loads more colours, and all of them are sheer.

I find that some of the creamier shades can sit in my lip lines a bit, but it really depends on the shade on how noticeable it is in person. The wear ranges from three to five hours (reds and the like). There's a faint, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. The finish was exceptionally shiny, and it did give the illusion of plumper lips.

The formulas in this palette itself are much better in pigment and color payoff significantly compared to the first ones she launched. It’s still a very natural looking but I think colors are deep enough for even medium tan skin tones. It’s neutral in undertone to me making it a lot more wearable than her previous Beauty Glow Palette from 2017. Colors are soft but buildable, I think with the texture it’s easy to blend and impossible to overdo. It didn’t have as much slip as I would have thought, but this helped it sit better on my lips and have better longevity. It had rich color coverage that adhered somewhat evenly to my lips and seemed to fill in a few of my lip lines but didn’t smooth them all out.

Then clean the canister and any detachable hose extensions you've used with hot soap and water. Vacuuming will cause the flea eggs to WAKE up, and they’ll hatch and crawl out of your vacuum if you don't empty and clean it properly. If you have a vacuum with a bag, then you need to take the bag out to the trash right away. You may wish to pre-treat with flea-treatment for carpets, such as FleaBustersRx or Knockout Spray. If using powder, you need to let it sit for 24 to 48 hours BEFORE vacuuming it up. However, you should comb the powder into carpets and seams of upholstery so that you don't visibly see it.

Duvet vs. Comforter: Which is Best for Your Bed?

Fleas are parasitic insects that are typically brown in color and smaller than 1/8 of an inch. When choosing hosts, fleas prefer furry, four-legged animals to humans. However, fleas will sometimes hop onto nearby human hosts, and they can take up residence in your home’s carpets and bedding.

Hot, soapy water kills fleas, so wash your cat's or dog’s bed every week. And if your pets sleep in your bed or with your kids, make sure to wash everyone else’s bedding too. These eggs may fall off your pet and end up all over the house.

They are wingless and usually reddish-brown, with hard, polished bodies covered with microscopic backward-pointing spines and hairs. However, many essential oils are not pet-safe, so never use them on or around your pet without first talking to your vet. Fleas have a life cycle from a few weeks to several months, depending on a variety of factors such as temperature and humidity. Due to this unpredictable life cycle — as well as environmental conditions and the severity of the infestation — it can take weeks to months to eliminate fleas. When fleas show up in your home, you want to get rid of them ASAP.

So, if you didn't clean your home environment well, you will end up with more fleas in approximately 1–2 weeks, and the cycle will continue. Squirrels, rats, mice, and other wildlife are common carriers of fleas. Make sure your yard is clean of any food waste or covered areas that may attract rodents. Discourage wildlife from visiting your yard by putting up fencing or barriers, and check any current fencing for loose boards or gaps where wildlife may slip through. If you do aim to use an insecticide or other chemical cleaning treatment, please proceed with caution.

Vet’s Best Flea and Tick Dog Shampoo

Keeping all this in mind, treating a flea infestation requires a multipronged approach in order to tackle every stage of their lifecycle and break the cycle. Treating all the pets in your home, as well as cleaning well, is paramount to getting an infestation behind you. You will need to vacuum even if a professional is treating your home. While many vet-approved or prescribed sprays and topicals are considered safe, some pets may still be sensitive to their ingredients. Stop any treatment if you notice that it’s causing irritation to your pet’s skin, or another kind of allergic response. Inform your vet if your pet has any known sensitivities to medications or ingredients.

Formulated with natural oils, this flea shampoo is designed to kill fleas, flea larva, flea eggs and even ticks on your pet within hours, according to the brand. While most might think fleas are solely an issue for cats or dogs, fleas can actually bite humans as well. The question of how to get rid of fleas in your house may be more commonly asked by people with animals, but it is possible to have fleas even if you do not have a pet.

Aim to brush your cat with a flea comb at least once per day to pull fleas off of them. Keep in mind that a flea comb won’t kill fleas, so you will need to have a plan to quickly kill fleas as you brush them off before they jump back onto your cat or get loose in your house. Brushing your cat on a hard surface, like a tile floor or wooden table, will help to reduce the chances of you losing track of the fleas you brush off. Other animals, especially strays, can potentially bring fleas into your home. Don’t allow visiting animals into the house, as they can perpetuate the flea life cycle, especially if they are not on flea treatment themselves.

These eggs may be laid in your pet’s fur, deep in the carpet, or in tall grass. Choose an insecticide that contains an insect growth regulator (ICR). These are chemicals (e.g., methoprene and pyriproxyfen) that prevent fleas from reproducing. Treat all soft surfaces, including carpeting, with the insecticide. Then keep pets and family members away from the treated areas for at least a few hours, until the insecticide has dried.

The heat will kill the fleas, but it may not kill all the eggs. They may hatch later, and you may have to steam clean again. Treat all of the affected areas inside and outside thoroughly and stay out of your home for at least 3 to 4 hours after treatment, not returning until you are sure everything is dry. We always recommended boarding pets or having them stay with a friend or family member during the treatment process. If you have a bagless vacuum, you need to empty it into a trash bag when you’re done, seal the trash bag and throw it OUTSIDE.

But, fleas and their eggs may lurk in other parts of your home and yard, too. Liquid forms, such as Ortho Home Defense Spray, tend to be better because once dry, pets and children can then walk in the yard. Granule insecticides need to be watered in and take time to dissolve. If not, they can stick to your pet's paw pads, and they may ingest them. If you prefer a more natural route, you can try a flea treatment spray made from essential oils, like Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray. A flea infestation usually requires a combination of tactics.

The best way to get rid of fleas is to take steps to prevent them in the first place, but if you’re dealing with a breakout, there are things you can do to clean your pet and your home. We spoke to veterinarians about the telltale signs of fleas, how to get rid of them and how to prevent them. It is a naturally occurring powder made from the microscopic remains of diatom algae. The strength in bookings means that the days of $26-a-night cruise deals is likely coming to an end. Still, that doesn't mean that cruisers can't find good offers for soon-to-depart sailings. Royal Caribbean periodically offers sales on pre-purchased packages for drinks, Wi-Fi and other onboard spending items. These deals can offer significant savings over buying the same packages after boarding a ship. Most onboard activities, such as rock climbing and zip lining, are included in the fare, as are your lodging, meals (in non-extra-charge restaurants) and entertainment.

Is Ben and Jerry’s Included On Royal Caribbean?

This one's a classic — and easily one of the best free things to do onboard Utopia of the Seas℠. This surf simulator funnels over 30,000 gallons of rushing water to create perfect swells all day, every day. You don't need to be a pro to carve the surf, though — try your best to keep from wiping out or do what I do and ride boogie-style on your belly. Experience exquisite dining on vacation with Navigator of the Seas cruise restaurants.

He has become one of the foremost expert on a Royal Caribbean cruise. If you're a megaresort lover, you'll surely love the line's biggest ships, particularly the giant Oasis Class vessels. If you're more of a small boutique hotel sort of person or someone who just isn't happy around crowds, well … this might not be the line for you.

Onboard Activities

These small bites will be priced à la carte and charged to your onboard account. The Unlimited Dining Package can be booked prior to your cruise via Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Planner website. Royal Caribbean may also sell dining packages on embarkation day once you board the ship if they have availability. This unique Port Canaveral cruise itinerary to Bermuda and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Adventure of the Seas® visits both of Royal Caribbean's private destinations, where paradise is just steps away from the ship.

Once onboard, head to any specialty restaurant to make reservations for the duration of your cruise. If you visit Chops Grille, for example, you can make reservations for all other restaurants at the same time. Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas®. In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad.

Indonesian Food in the Caribbean

Diamond Plus members get five drinks, and Pinnacle members get six. Those can be water, specialty coffee or tea other than at Starbucks, sodas from bar servers, beer, wine or cocktails up to $14 (except at Bionic Bar). Royal Caribbean drink packages allow you to drink what you want and when you want without feeling like you are being nickeled and dimed. The all-inclusive, extra-fee beverage plans aren't necessarily for everyone, but they are a nice way to enhance your cruise and take some of the stress out of in-the-moment vacation decisions.

Top 11 Must-Try Mediterranean Foods

From tender osso buco to cheesy lasagna and kid-friendly pizzas, everything on the menu is exemplary. Prefer to keep dinner a little more casual but still want to dial it up? Hooked Seafood℠ — a laid-back yet stylish specialty dining venue delivering an authentic taste of the New England coast — is a wonderful option. Among my favorites are their Maryland crab cakes and creamy Maine lobster rolls.

Together, the 19 Icon, Oasis, Quantum, Freedom and Voyager class vessels make up Royal Caribbean's big-ship fleet. Five of the these six giant ships, all similar in design, are part of what's known as the Oasis Class — a hugely popular series of massive megaships that began debuting in 2009 and have changed the face of cruising. A sixth Oasis Class ship — Utopia of the Seas — is scheduled to join the fleet later this year, and the line recently ordered a seventh vessel in the series that'll be ready in 2028. For example, the Alaska cruise shoulder seasons are May and September, which often extend into late April and early October and can be cheaper to book. First and foremost, one Premier Pass purchase is for two people, whereas The Key has a per-person price. After a cruise is booked, go to Royal Caribbean's site, log in to your account and click on "Cruise Planner."

The currency used on all Royal Caribbean ships is U.S. dollars, no matter where they are in the world. All vessels operate on a "cashless system," with any onboard purchases you make posting automatically to your onboard account. Smoking (including e-cigarette smoking) is allowed only in designated outdoor areas, casinos and the cigar clubs found on Freedom Class and Voyager Class ships.

One of the top reasons savvy travelers love cruising, though, is because of the incredible value it offers. With Royal Caribbean, your cruise fare includes access to most of the ship’s attractions, select dining venues and all of the entertainment onboard. If you want to make your experience even more all-inclusive, you can opt for beverage and specialty dining packages that cover drinks and dinner at some of the most exclusive restaurants in the fleet. On top of all that, the cruise line presents frequent limited-time offers and seasonal sales, making it easy to score big savings when booking your vacation. If you can be flexible when it comes to your travel dates, you’ll have your pick of unbeatable savings. Popular vacation dates — like the holidays, spring break, summer vacation and week long cruises — sometimes see the highest prices (though you might get lucky with a seasonal sale).

When you compare everything a cruise has to offer, it’s easy to see you get unbeatable value without the expensive price tag of an all-inclusive resort vacation, or the unexpected surprise expenses. What’s more, unlike “cookie cutter vacations” at all-inclusive resorts, a cruise gives you the flexibility to tailor your getaway depending on your party’s interests, needs, and budget. With upgrades such as specialty dining, beverage packages and guided excursions available if you want to splurge, and an incredible experience you don’t have to compromise on even if you don’t. So do yourself a favor and trade in your boring all-inclusive resort for the experience of a lifetime when you decide to cruise to an exotic location. Whether you're heading out to the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera or Alaska, this is one memory-maxing vacation you'll never forget. It all starts with the boldest cruise ships at sea — and ours have won awards for everything from world class dining and spectacular entertainment, to record-setting onboard thrills and groundbreaking innovation.

The first step to making sure you get the best deals is to join the cruise line’s email list. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive regular updates on all the latest offers, like deals by destination, kids sail free promotions and flash sales. From caffeine craving to soda sipping, from cocktails to mocktails, favorite brews and more, our drink and beverage packages satisfy every preference. There’s a Classic Soda Package and a Refreshment Package to cover nonalcoholic options — perfect for kids. Or sip your way across the fleet’s world-class bars and lounges with a Deluxe Beverage Package.
